Are you wondering where to eat in Perugia? If you visit Umbria you can’t miss Perugia and once in the city you can’t miss La Prosciutteria. In a short time we managed to carve out a space for ourselves in the crowded panorama of the city’s restaurants by focusing on two elements: cordial friendliness in the service and quality/quantity/price ratio.
Obviously a big hand was also given by the restoration of the place which, although small, has the ancient charm of things well done of the past. You enter through a large door that opens onto the square and you are immediately invaded by the scent of hams and cured meats hanging from the ceiling; beyond the seats in front of the counter you go down to a second level of what was once the cellar of the building, with its brick vault and stone walls. The place has a few stools placed in front of the entrance to “watch who goes by” and then a large outdoor area just around the corner, that is, in that Corso Mazzini that connects the city stroll of Corso Vannucci with our Piazza Matteotti.
In total, we can accommodate about 35 people inside and the same number outside. The area dedicated to the Perugian aperitif is all around us, as are the major monuments of the city. We can also define ourselves without modesty as one of the most popular places for graduation parties, in a university city like ours our informal but well-kept, tasty but simple environment is particularly appreciated.
What can you find at La Prosciutteria di Firenze in Perugia?
Obviously the best of Umbrian, Tuscan and Italian delicatessen, with kilometre-long platters, stuffed schiacciate and then carpaccio, salads, fondues, some hot dishes, the famous wood-fired Porchetta di Bevagna, Prosciutto di Norcia and so on and so forth. Eating in Perugia is a pleasure! We are obviously open every day even for lunch, even just for a quick sandwich or simply to have a chat.
Finally, we remind you that here, as in all our places, you can do your shopping and take home preserves and all the products tasted like an old but modern “grocery store”.
In the heart of Umbria, La Prosciutteria Perugia combines taste, atmosphere, and the social energy typical of truly lived historic centers. If you are wondering where to eat in Perugia, the answer is simple and convincing: an informal yet curated venue where tradition meets an agile menu perfect for lunch, dinner, and especially aperitivo in Perugia.
In a short time, La Prosciutteria has carved out a strong place in the Perugia restaurant scene by focusing on three clear elements: hospitality, product quality, and a value-for-money experience that leaves guests satisfied.
La Prosciutteria stands out in the city’s food scene thanks to an environment that blends historical charm with modern comfort. Located in the historic center, it offers a distinctive atmosphere with restored brick vaults and stone walls, creating a welcoming space for an authentic culinary experience.
Guests enter through a large door opening onto the square and are immediately greeted by intense aromas, warm colors, and details that tell a story. Hanging cured meats fill the air with tradition and authenticity. The impression is that of a true prosciutteria: familiar yet refined, with a pleasant rhythm that encourages guests to slow down, talk, and choose with care.
The venue is arranged across multiple levels. Beyond the seating near the counter, guests can descend into the old cellar of the building, where brick arches and stone walls amplify the feeling of authenticity. It is the kind of place that invites you to stay and enjoy the atmosphere.
One dish that guests remember is the porchetta. The wood-fired Bevagna porchetta is a must on the menu, appreciated for its crispy exterior and rich flavor. It is a symbol of the region: aromatic, savory, and perfect in sandwiches or generous plates.
Seasonal proposals rotate alongside the classics: carpaccio, salads, fondue, warm dishes, and options for both full meals and quick tastings. There are also street-style influences, including filled Tuscan schiacciata for those who prefer practical, flavorful bites.
The location is strategic: the terrace sits along Corso Mazzini, a natural connection between the main promenade of Corso Vannucci and Piazza Matteotti. It is a lively area, perfect for those looking for aperitivo spots in Perugia while enjoying a sharing board and the atmosphere of the city.
Entering La Prosciutteria is like taking a journey through regional flavors. The sharing boards are generous and filled with Umbrian and Tuscan specialties such as Prosciutto di Norcia, capocollo, and carefully selected artisanal cured meats. Alongside these are warm dishes and large salads, creating a varied and high-quality menu.
Cured meats are the protagonists. The selection speaks clearly of Umbria and Italy, deeply rooted in tradition. This is a contemporary version of a true Umbrian delicatessen, focused on important products and simple pairings. Perugia-style cured meat boards highlight intense and recognizable flavors like Prosciutto di Norcia, alongside coppa, lardo, and other specialties designed for both tasting variety and memorable bites.
The wine list completes the experience with special attention to local producers. La Prosciutteria highlights the best Umbrian labels, especially Sagrantino di Montefalco, the symbolic wine of the region. By-the-glass options make the experience flexible and accessible, ideal for pairing with a board or turning a stop into a full aperitivo.
Among Umbrian wines, Sagrantino stands out for its depth and intensity, perfect with cured meats and porchetta. The selection also extends into Tuscan and regional wines to cover a wide range of tastes.
Thanks to its informal yet curated atmosphere, La Prosciutteria has become a popular destination for graduation parties and private events in Perugia. Good food combines with convivial energy in a space that feels comfortable and lively.
Perugia is a university city, and that energy is visible here. The venue is often chosen for graduation celebrations and small events: groups of friends, shared boards, toasts, and a cheerful but well-managed atmosphere. The formula is convivial, flavorful, and relaxed.
The philosophy is clear: generous portions, quality ingredients, fair pricing. Guests leave satisfied, feeling they spent well. This is why La Prosciutteria has become a reference among restaurants in Perugia’s historic center for those seeking substance and simplicity.
La Prosciutteria is open daily, including lunch hours, making it perfect for a quick sandwich, a shared board, or a glass of wine. A special bonus is the possibility to shop in boutique style, bringing home wines, preserves, and products tasted during the visit — a perfect gastronomic souvenir from Umbria.
Located on Corso Mazzini in the beating heart of Perugia, the venue is easily reachable on foot or by public transport. From Corso Vannucci or Piazza Matteotti, it is only a short walk. The area is lively and well connected, ideal as a stop during a walk through the historic center.
A practical tip: if you are already walking the main historic routes, consider La Prosciutteria a natural pause between viewpoints. It sits close to the city’s main flow while still feeling deeply local — a place where you truly experience Perugia.
